This Melee article, published in Annuals of Apocrypha Volume 2, Issue 1, page 1, by Timers the Rogue.
"Medieval Reenactment. Fantasy Roleplaying. Melee is all of these and more. It is a common grounding where imaginations meet.....of the world that we live in, there are many with fantastic imaginations.. And to achieve a name that can be placed on the rolls of legend alongside those which we've all heard before: Arthur, Lancelot, Conan, Aragorn, Fafhrd, the Grey Mouser, Elric of Melnibone, Altarius, Alton LaPeto, Doolin MacKeag."
Alongside with this article, many Melee Factions were based on Fantasy, or RPG.. for example, The Black Company was based on the book, "The Black Company" by Glen Cook. "Chaos" based on the chaos monsters in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Many Gathering Scenarios had magic and monsters and these scenarios shall also be furnished as proof as well.
